Maastricht: September 2011

Beginners: Proefles, Les1, Les2, Les3, Les4, Les5, Les6, Les7, Les8

Proefles: Introducing argentine tango, playing with the music, ways of moving together as follower and leader, walking forward, backwards, to the side, inside and outside the followers foot. The sandwich from a side step.

Gevorderd: Proefles, Les1, Les2, Les3, Les4, Les5, Les6, Les7, Les8

Proefles: Introducing the idea of an extra step for the followers, lead by the leader. ways of extending the leg using the heel instead of the toes. Making followers extra step a sacada, leaders stepping into the side step of the follower.

Les1: The difference between sacadas and ganchos, finding two options for a sacada in followers side step and forward step. Finding two options for a gancho in the followers side steps.

Les2: Ganchos, introducing a gancho in the followers back step. using the exercise of extra forward and back step for the follower and then step together.

Performance group: September 2011

Week 1: Introducing the group, wish list. Soltadas from a barrida. Working with different music, exploring what they invite from you in the way of character, feeling, type of movement.

Week 2: Sacadas, creating sequences of sacadas

Weeks 3: Ganchos, multiple ganchos

Week 4: Knitting ganchos and endings.

Overall topics include: Axis and out of axis, connection with your partner, leading and active following, communication and the axis.

Week 1: Working with volcadas. simple volcada from followers forward ocho.

Week 2: Close embrace volcada from cross system forward ocho. Including leg wraps in the end of the lesson as a brain teaser. Linear and crossing volcadas. Multiple volcadas from cross system forward ocho position.

Week 3: Revision of week one and two. Looking at the beginning and end of volcadas. Giving time to the journey of the volcada, working with followers following and not pre empting the movement.

Week 4: Axis, finding axis, staying in axis. contra forward ocho (parallel system) with calisita and contra boleos forward and backwards.

Week5: Axis, contra forward boleo linking with back boleo from last week.

Week 6: Contra boleos and directional free leg movements. Exploring the difference between the two approaches to the free leg. Puppet exercise which linked different parts of the followers free leg to the embrace. Every movement can be lead!!! Piernazos as brain teazer a the end.

Week 7: Recapping contra and directional boleos and free leg movements. Recapping piernazo as a possibility coming out of a linear forward boleo.

Week 8: Musicality, using the idea of extra steps for the follower and leader (all lead). Circle around the leader/ circle around the follower and movements together in the space. cross system and parallel feet. Enrosques in the line of dance for the follower.

Week 9: Shared rhythms and keeping a rhythm between the couple, with moments where she keeps a rhythm or he does through the lead. Sacadas for him and her.

Week 10: Exploring milonga and vals. Quality of movement. emphasising the beat in different parts of a step, what this means in the dance and possibilities that arise from it.

Week 11: Recap the last weeks going deeper. Requested: how to create torsion in the body without tension or loosing axis, sacadas, crossing turn and boleos.

Week 12: Tortion excercises, sacadas, circles around him and her + where does this come into the dance. Everywhere!!!

Week 13: Split weight turns + sacadas and volcadas. Circle games for improvisation and musicality. Circular steps and linear steps. axis and extending the leg for the followers.

Week 14: free leg warm up, circular spiral movements using body to extend the leg, not brain induced movement. creating a strong axis. 2 sacadas in parallel, recapped first sacadas, recapped linear and circular boleos.

Basis 1+2

Overall topics: to improve quality of movement while having fun learning basic movements of tango while learning also to improvise and how to link like movements together.

Week 1: Walking and forward ochos

Week 2: Walking, forward ochos, walking on the inside and outside, sacadas as brain teazer for the end.

Week 3: communication and connection exercises in the beginning. exploring the two parts to a step. for leaders 1. show the drection, 2. if you move, move with your partner. For the followers 1. to move free leg in response to lead and 2. to find new axis really choosing to arrive. recapping forward ochos in parallel feet and sacadas.

Week 4: The cross in parallel feet.

Week 5: the cross in parallel system and cross system. linking this with forward ochos and through this sacadas.

Week 6: recapping everything so far.

Week 7: axis exercises, backwards ocho. Sandwich as a teazer for the last 10 minutes.

Week 8: repeating the backwards ocho with a slight change to leaders movement creating alteraciones. linking the sandwiche with the backward ocho and the alteracion which is the same position!!!

Week 9: Vals warm up, how to move to vals and tango music. Recapping alteracion and sandwich. Barriidas in the last 15 minutes.

Week 10: recapping the barridas and at the end adding the backwards ocho, alteraciones and sandwiches.

Week 11: recapping lesson linking all the movemnts done so far. forward ochos, sacadas, walking. then the backwards ocho as a root movement for sandwich, alteraciones and barridas.

Week 12: Linking forward and back ochos together. the sandwiche.

Week 13: Recapping with exercises on quality of movment and ways of finding axis.

Week 14: Expansive vs. shy introverted movements. forward ochos and sacadas. b.ochos and alteraciones, adding sandwich, later adding barridas. as a group making a sequence of three of the movements they liked to dance with. Last 15 minutes there was a gancho from the sandwich position as a teazer for the next course.
